CASSOWARY HOTLINE: 1300 130 372

Cassowary conservation requires behaviour change from humans in a number of areas.

Cassowaries do not benefit from human contact. If they learn to rely on humans for food they are at risk of becoming victims of car accidents or dog attacks.

As solitary, primarily rainforest dwellers cassowaries need large connected territories in order to survive and breed. Unsustainable farming and land development practices without vegetation corridors will isolate birds, as happened to Blue Arrow.

The following organisations are working on maintaining cassowary habitat and rehabilitating injured animals:

The cassowary communities hold events throughout the year to inform and support cassowary survival. For educational resources look up 'Sustainability' on the Resources tab.
